PMI- Project Management institute

For the people who want to choose project management as their profession there are many Project Management Courses available. These courses provide the willing people with knowledge and skill in this particular field and help them to become certified project managers. PMI-Project Management Institute is great help for the people perusing technical professions. Although there are a large number of courses being offered by PMI, CAPM and PMP are more important.

PMP-Project Management Professional

PMP is a project management course offered by PMI which is in great demand now a days. To get certification in PMP, it is necessary to satisfy a certain criteria. PMP is a four hours long test which comprises of 200 multiple choice questions. To appear in the PMP exam the candidate must have:

  • A high school graduate or equivalent. AND
  • 35 hours of project management education. OR
  • 4500 hours of experience of work with some project management team.

To get the certification, it is necessary to pass the test and agree to the PMI law of ethics and professional conduct.

Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)

Being comparatively easier than PMP, CAPM was also introduced by PMI in 2003. CaPM is a type of entry test for the people, who want project management as their profession. It was also introduced by the PMI for the people who do not have much experience in project management. CAPM is a good source of basic fundamental knowledge for the beginner. The people who are new to this field prefer CAPM as it gives them a good start in this field.

CAPM Course Books

CAPM is similar to PMP as it covers the same topics and experience as does the PMP. It comprises of 150 multiple choice questions that are to be solved in three hours. These questions evaluate the knowledge of a Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOKĀ® Guide). It is necessary to satisfy a certain criteria for the candidate, which is as follows:

  • A high school graduate or equivalent. AND
  • 23 hours of project management education. OR
  • 1500 hours of experience of work with some project management team.

So CAPM is comparatively easier than PMP. Both are a gateway to the profession of project management. PMP asks more situational questions. People who find it difficult to answer situational questions choose CAPM instead of PMP as CAPM is designed for less experienced people. CAPM is good for those who are changing their career and are new to this profession. PMP is a more professional exam. There are many institutes and organizations that provide training and prepare for the project management courses. The institutes and organizations which are approved by PMI are known as PMI R.E.P. (Registered Education Provider).

To pace up with the changes and advancements being brought in project management, it is compulsory to renew the project management certification by PMI by re-appearing in the test after every five years. The certification of these project management courses ensures chances of better jobs for the candidates.
